QUOTE OF THE DAY

"This is my art and it is dangerous!"
- Delia Deetz, Beetlejuice

Saturday, May 28, 2011

At the AGO tonight, I was quite taken with an abstract image created by Mark Rothko. He used these colors in a such a simple and basic way that it had me drawn. So much so that I bought a print on my way out (*cough* Exit Through The GIft Shop *cough*).

The image in the photo is a bike which was originally spray painted orange. I've never really like orange ...in fact I might even hate it. So I changed it. I'm not sure there's anything special about the image though. I just really like the colors.

More Graffiti

"Portrait of a Killer"

I've been walking down many alley ways these days as they are the best place to locate these random pieces of art. Somewhere out there, people are making stencils of random images and spray painting them all over the city. What I like about this new movement more than the images themselves, are where they are placed. I've seen stencils on street signs, concrete benches, garbage bins, and much more. Whatever the canvas, it's almost always subtle and not obvious to the world.

This specific image is very creepy. It was located in an alley right next to an image of Marilyn Monroe. I have no idea who this is or if it's even supposed to be someone famous. It could be an original piece by the artist. I thought it looked like Ed Gein who was the serial killer that inspired the characters of Norman Bates, Leather Face, and Hannibal Lector.

Girl On A Swing

"Swing For The Fences"

This morning I went for a walk to Tim Horton's for my coffee. Seeing that it was such a nice day, I decided to drink it outside and take some pictures. I was sitting on a concrete bench for a good forty minutes with nothing but dead images. I couldn't find anything interesting about my surroundings that it was frustrating me. And to add to my frustration, a hornet was hovering over me and kept going for my coffee. After being circled a couple times and hearing the buzzing sound in my ear, I finally picked up my purse and slid down in the opposite direction. I looked down at my new spot to discover this girl on a swing spray painted on the concrete. I couldn't help but think of it as some weird twist of fate. Yes I believe in hooky stuff like that. Because before the hornet forced me to leave, I was considering going the other way to continue my walk. If I had done that, I never would have found this.

Thank you hornet!

In The Shower

"Mood Hair"

I like this photo because it generates two separate reactions from people. At first glance, one is intrigued. Most of the time people say it looks like a pencil lines when you don't take a break from the paper. Whatever thoughts people have are soon altered when I tell them what this picture actually is.

The original photo was of my hair on the tiles of my shower. This is where people cringe or make a gross face. Perhaps it's slightly strange to have done this but I really liked the way it looked. The lines are smooth and oddly calming. And with the filter I used from the "Instagram" application, it looks like it could be at the bottom of a pool or some body of water.

Graffiti Clock

"Almost Six"

I saw this clock spray painted on the back on a sign in the park yesterday. I was immediately interested and took the picture without realizing that the time which appears on the clock is almost six. How did I not see that before?

Eerie.

Number's Two, Three and Five

I have now decided to take pictures of the numbers zero through ten. In the past I was committed to my favorite number, number six, but now I'm going to expand. I find it very interesting. I think when put into numerical order, each number from the different locations will look very neat.

My Third Lamp

"Illuminate The Frame"

I'm not sure if I like this more than my second lamp photo. It's shape is just as intriguing to me if not more so. It is a simple, elementary school shape. It was very hard to get this square centered in relation to the outside border. This is as good as it gets. I'm done with it.

Another Lamp

"Untitled"

This is my second picture of a lamp. I'll admit not nearly as good as my first but still interesting to say the least. The only thing I don't like about this picture is that damn smoke detector next to it. I feel it takes me out of the feeling of the photo. Small detail, I know, but I'm a perfectionist.

Bucket of Cement

"Dark Side of the Moon"

Another Day, Another Dollar

"Walk of Shame"

This photo was finished off with a new app that I downloaded this evening called "Instagram". It has many of the features of the "Tiltshift" app which I had been previously using. The thing I love about this one though is the ability to polaroid it without going through a separate app.

The original photo is of the hallway I walk down every day at work. I took it from this perspective because this is the way that makes me cringe. Walking towards the center means I have eight hours of mind numbing work ahead of me.

An interesting thing which was pointed out to me was that the light reflections which appear on the floor kind of look like water. A co-worker said she saw the inside of a sewer tunnel and I must say that I enjoyed that interpretation. I like it when images create different interpretations. That's how I know I did something right.

Lost and Found

"The Key To Sanity"

Right now I'm at work and extremely bored. I started roaming around the lost and found and noticed a lot of keys. I like keys. Each one is so unique and god only knows the doors in which these particular keys open. The ones in the top left corner look like they could open a diary. Below it are a set that could be to someone's house.

I am so fascinated by keys. Without them we'd be lost. We all fear losing them and not being able to get into our homes, lockers, etc. I used to be infamous for having a "janitors set" of keys by which I mean that I had multiple keys that I never used. Key's for my childhood and university homes were among many.

Recently I went on a key diet and now I only have the essentials.
